PMVA Training (Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression)
This accredited PMVA course equips healthcare professionals and frontline staff with the skills to prevent and manage challenging or aggressive behaviour safely and respectfully. Delivered in line with BILD ACT accreditation and Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) standards, the training focuses on both theory and practice.
The course includes two integrated elements:
Part 1: E-Learning
Before attending a refresher in-person training, participants must complete an online theory module covering:
- Causes of violence and aggression
- Legal and ethical use of force
- Risk assessment and de-escalation
- Safeguarding and duty of care
This module must be passed before progressing to the practical training.

Part 2 : 3 Day Face to Face Training
Held on-site, this three-day practical training includes:

- Legal Framework
- Ethics
- Expectations
Day 3:
- Refresher of subjects covered on Days 1 & 2
- Practice session on techniques learnt so far
- Common grabs + holds
- Slaps, punches, kicks
- Basic restraint techniques
- Chair restraint
- Clothing grabs
- Hair pulls, strangulation, arm locks
- Theory assessment
- Practical Assessment
Part 2: 1 Day Refresher Face to Face Training
Held on-site, this one-day practical refresher course includes:
- Refresher of subjects covered on Days 1 & 2 of full course
- Practice session on techniques
- Common grabs + holds
- Slaps, punches, kicks
- Basic restraint techniques
- Chair restraint
- Clothing grabs
- Hair pulls, strangulation, arm locks
